I just finished registering for the Mississippi River Challenge and am looking forward to paddling the entire 70km/44 mile route this year. Last year, the event took place just a couple days after the I35 Bridge collapsed so, obviously, the Minneapolis portion of the route was canceled. I’m also really looking forward to having a few Summit Pale’s on Saturday night at Fort Snelling. I’m still undecided if I’m going to bring my kayak with me or rent one while I’m in town. Some of the rentals in last years event were pretty rough looking but if I can find a Nordkapp or Explorer, I think I’ll rent. Maybe I’ll even buy one while I’m there!!!!

I will post a link to my fundraising page soon and would greatly appreciate any amount you can pledge. All funds raised through the Mississippi River Challenge directly support Friends of the Mississippi River and their work to protect the River in the Twin Cites region.

I set up a personal fund-raising page for the Mississippi River Challenge. Better late than never, right?

On August 3rd, I’ll be heading down to Minneapolis - St. Paul to participate in the MRC. On the 4th and 5th, I will be paddling 70 km (44 miles) at this years event and you could really help out by sponsoring me. Any donation, no matter the amount, is greatly appreciated and goes to a great cause.

You can make a donation online by visiting: www.firstgiving.com/jasonbruce .
Donating through my personal page is simple, fast and secure. Or, if you prefer to make a cash donation, please get in touch with me.

All funds raised through the Mississippi River Challenge directly support Friends of the Mississippi River and their work to protect the river in the Twin Cites region.

Many thanks for your support — and please forward my sponsorship page to anyone you think might want to donate too!

I drove down to Lutsen today to register my kayak in Minnesota for the Mississippi River Challenge. I was thinking about bringing my kayak and paddling around Grand Marais but it was raining this morning so I didn’t bother. Sure enough, it stopped raining and the sun came out once I got to the border. Oh well.

After registering my kayak, I stopped in Grand Marais to do some shopping at Superior Coastal Sports and to checkout the art festival. I could have easily spent a few hundred dollars at Superior Coastal but didn’t want to bother with claiming everything at the border. I’ll wait until August when I’ll be in Minnesota for a few days and can claim up to $400 worth of goods without paying duty. I did buy some NRS Guide Gloves for the Mississippi River Challenge though. I don’t really like wearing gloves while paddling but I have a feeling I’ll be a little more inclined to getting blisters while paddling 44 miles on the Mississippi. I also bought some nice aurora borealis photos at the art festival. Anyway, it was beautiful out and I wanted to get home and do some paddling. Guess what? As soon as I got home, it started pouring. Maybe tomorrow it will be nice out.
